If you are traveling by air, you may want to rent a car from the airport.
To take the train up to West Point, if traveling from NY airports you can take the Metro North Railroad that departs from Grand Central Terminal. The train that arrives at Garrison is the stop you want to take. (This is the East of the Hudson Rail).
